Open Question: National Guard Active First, any MOS?
Alright, I'm enlisted in the Army National Guard. I haven't left for training and was going to receive out and enlist active, but my recruiter told me about Active First. He said I could receive any MOS. Do you find this to be true? Once I sign my contract with Active First in it, I receive to keep that right? There's no way they can make me go guard instead? And benefits are every the same as if I signed AD to start with? every I want is to be active duty right now, for personal reasons, recruiter knows that. Thanks in advance.

Open Question: What's the process of switching to active duty?
I'm a 19D (Cav Scout) in the National Guard. I'm wanting to switch to active duty. I was wanting to know what the process of making the switch is, and every the major rules that apply. Most specifically, can I do it mid-contract? Before you just tell me to contact my team leader, the majority of my unit that isn't deployed is nice of retarded. A big reason why I want to switch.

Open Question: Tax question... I work in my home state, and another state. Who do I owe?
I live in Massachusetts, and have a regular job here. But I'm also a member of the National Guard in Pennsylvania, and earned income there. Apparently, it looks like I owe state tax to both states. As a Mass resident, MA seems to want me to file including my entire income, even money I earned in another state. How much do I file with PA, as a non-resident? This seems like I'm really getting screwed, having to pay taxes on my earnings *twice*... The income I earned in PA was fairly substantial too, because it includes a big re-enlistment bonus. I've already paid into PA state taxes over $1000 out of my paychecks... and now MA wants me to pay them the same thing too??

Open Question: DS: "The dogs called pit bulls are just dogs." Hector the Pit Bull, Vic’s former dog a STAR?
Citizens for a No Kill Philadelphia (CNKP) holds lecture series at Drexel School of Law and Hector the Pit Bull (Vic’s former dog) was STAR A panel discussion was held last night at Drexel University's Earle Mack School of Law titled The Importance of Creating a Safe and Humane Society for every People and Animals. It was hosted by Citizens for a No Kill Philadelphia (CNKP) and Drexel's Student Animal Legal Defense Fund. The main point demonstrated by speaker Donald Cleary of the National Canine Research Council was "The dogs called pit bulls are just dogs." The star of the evening was by no doubt, Hector the Pit Bull, a rehabilitated former Michael Vick fighting dog rescued from Bad Newz Kennels by BAD RAP a San Francisco based rescue group and adopted by Clara and Andrew "Roo" Yori. Hector delighted attendees with his gentle nature, loving attitude, and grace below pressure (of public appearances) in spite of his numerous eternal scars from his former life. Certified by Therapy Dogs International, Hector has passed the AKC Canine Good Citizen exam (twice) and the temperament test of the American Temperament Test Society. He carries his possess business cards in his vest wherever he goes and is free with giving affection and pets with any human nearby. His job is being a therapy dog and an ambassador for the pit bull breed. Hector has passed 10 tests to become a certified therapy dog. And no, Vick did not cease by to look how Hector is doing. Cleary went on to point out that the words pit bull and dog are not used interchangeably; arguing they should be he clarified Dr. Randall Lockwood's position that dogs cannot be characterized without humans. He also defined the difference between family dogs and resident dogs. The former being a companion animal who is treated as part of a family, living indoors, cared for and loved with the latter being dogs used for guarding or protection, often chained and kept outside with little, if any human interaction. Cleary also noted negative impressions about pit bulls have been perpetuated by the media and used the examples of two dog bite incidents. One, a fatal dog bite of a six year old child by a non pit bull dog received only two published articles nationwide while a story about a minor pit bull bite incident received thousands of articles written about it. every speakers were in agreement it is important to bring to the public's attention the positive stories about pit bulls, like Hector's. Leigh Siegfried, certified pet dog trainer and owner of Opportunity Barks, a Jenkintown based company, spoke about canine aggression and the fact it is situational. An example mentioned was highlighted in a picture shown of a pit bull chained to her whelping box with an oversized sized chain and her nursing pups. Another was allowing a child (or adult) to try to engage an emaciated dog in interaction; this can be a recipe for disaster because a starving dog is much more likely to bite than want to play. She stressed it is people that need to control dogs citing the importance of training and the ongoing impact of a loving owner upon a dog. Opportunity Barks also holds classes in Philadelphia. Next was Elise Van Kavage, Esq., Senior Legislative Attorney with Best Friends Animal Society in Kanab, Utah. VanKavage explained breed specific legislation (BSL) is in fact discrimination and called for legislation outlawing the practice. Pennsylvania is one of only two states that does outlaw BSL practice, thereby preventing townships and other local governments from enacting BSL. She dispelled the myth of a dog bite epidemic and quoted statistics showing a fourfold decrease in reported dog bites from the 1970's to gift time. Moderator Stacy Coleman of the Animal Farm Foundation in New York stressed the importance of communities coming together to be the voice of the voiceless and reminded everyone to be respectful of each other's opinions and points of view when dealing with BSL. CNKP's Garrett Elwood introduced some local animal advocates including Dierdre Franklin of Pinups for Pitbulls, Allison Lamond from PAWS, Christina Voigt from ACCT, Claire Tillman, Humane Education Coordinator at CNKP and Alanna Burke from Saving Temple's Cats. Many attendees were able to pose for photos with Hector and Roo Yori. Questions from attendees were answered and participation was interactive. It was clear that those in attendance were dedicated animal advocates who want to make a difference in Philadelphia. CBS' Todd Quinones did the story "Vick's Victim" and Jim Melwert of KYW wrote “Hector Aims to Show the Softer Side of Pit Bulls.” The following link shows a video of Hector visiting a room full of 3rd Grade kids. http://wcco.com/pets/hector.vick.dog.2.1386512.html Thank you in advance. Star for your contacts. What does this open debates for: That Vic was not such a bad guy? BSL? The dogs called Pit Bull are just dogs? The media’s motto, The public's need for education, by just banning the bully breeds, the government has given the public a untrue sense of security. Leaving the communities open to a higher number of dog attacks.

Open Question: Air National Guard Combat Communications - tell me about it?
I should be signing my enlistment papers on thursday for a 3D0X2 - Cyber Systems Operations job in the air national guard. The thing is, I just found out that the position is located in a Combat Communications Squadron. Can anyone tell me if they think this job would be out in the front lines of battle setting up computer networks, or is this typically a job that would be located on a secure base? From what I understand the job should be somewhat equivalent to a network administrator or database administrator, but I was nice of thrown off when I found out that its located in a combat communications squadron. Is this going to turn out to be more of a position where I'm stuck with the army guys fighting on the front lines, or do you think it'll be relatively safe and on some nice of secured base or camp? Please let me know your thoughts on this as I need to make a decision quick. BTW, I don't mind being deployed, I just want to find a tech job that will be somewhat safer than an infantryman. Thanks in advance!

Resolved Question: Army National Guard Infantry?
I am thinking about joining and have a few questions! First the unit that I will be going too got deployed in 2006 what's the chances of me being deployed? I honestly wouldn't mind going to battle I think that it would be an honor. I just don't want to be taken by surprise. I'm joing for 3 years and then 5 in the IRR. Also how long is Basic and AIT at Ft.Benning? I know it's a OSUT. What's a typical drill weekend like and what's it like for National Guard Infantry in Afghanistan? Is it combat every day every day or is there some down time? I am not scared per say but I don't want to die, is it really dangerous? I really am excited about joining but nervous as hell too! I have wanted to join for a few years and think that it will help me out a lot. I don't want to regret not joining later on in life. I want to earn my right as an American. Please help me out! The 86th BCT will replace the Georgia Army National Guard's 48th BCT, scheduled to deploy to Afghanistan this summer. What does this mean? The website says "This unit will be replacing a unit ... that has not yet deployed,"

Open Question: How about all those French and Germans trying to sneak into our country to take advantage of our health care?
I am a volunteer with the Coast Guard Axillary and help patrol on the Atlantic coast with my boat. Already this year we have turned back six yachts from France and Germany trying to sneak into the United States to escape the awful heath care systems in their countries. They cried when we turned them back saying that they were sick and would die from the wait times there. And we have intercepted several British boats, the refugees begging for help with cosmetic surgery, which there National Health System refuses them. My Friends on the Canadian border have noticed similar trends with Canooks trying to sneak in, seeking respite from their systems and begging for Blue Cross applications. They whine that they would be subjected to "death panels" if turned away but they should have thought of this when they allowed the socialists to take over from our private insurance companies. Is this not enough proof for liberals to realize that ObamaCare must be stopped and the threat of his complete takeover of the 1/6 of our economy be turned back?

Are guns, national ID cards, healthcare and weed the early stages of a quickly growing movement to nullify federal laws seen as outside the scope of their constitutionally-delegated powers? Open Question: What PA Army National Guard unit am I in, and how can I find out what I'll be doing?
I enlisted as a 35F last summer with split option, I'm going to Basic Training this coming summer, then on to Fort Hauchuca. After that I'm scheduled to go to the Monterey language school, to learn I don't know what language. BUT, I have no clue what I'm going to be doing. I don't understand the organization of the Army/Army Guard that well, so though I have been searching and searching the internet and asking my Sergeants, recruiter, and prior service people, I have still not found what I'm looking for, I seem to always ask the wrong question, or when I do find something, it conflicts with something else and I can't figure it out because I don't understand how it works. I've been checking through my paperwork from MEPS, and it says my unit is HHC 28th Infantry Division. When I searched this online however it would not tell me anything specific about the actual unit. I tried finding out how Military Intelligence falls into the 28th, and on one website it said the only place that's at is with the Stryker Brigade. But I'm female, and this sounds like a lot of combat stuff, which apparently I'm not supposed to be below (not that that's how I would like it). Basically, I guess what I would like to know is an up-to-date sort of organizational/structural understanding of the Divisions and Brigades, the 28th Infantry Division in particular. I found one on Wikipedia, but that's where I got the Stryker Brigade and I'm not sure that's right... Also, I've found many questions/answers on here relating to what 35F's do, or how much combat they receive involved in. It would seem that it depends on which person you're talking to. Does anyone out there know of reasons WHY a 35F would be out close combat, or at least deployed or whatnot? I've read that it's a desk job, and I've read that you can receive deployed several times. I'd just like to know, what nice of situations would involve a 35F (with language training) being out in the field, as close as possible to combat? Please, with AND without considering that I'm a female. Also, I've been assured that I can request deployments as much as I like, though I'll probably be temporarily reassigned to a different unit. Is it really that easy, or will it be harder?

Open Question: My roommate has become completely unbearable, how do I deal with it at this point?
I've asked family and friends, and I'm pretty much at my limits. So, as a last bit of effort to be civil before I go barbaric and childish on my roommate, I want to ask the internet community if they could give me some insight/advice that hasn't been brought up. Situation- To give a vivid picture of the situation, I came back from Army Basic this past summer (September). I had signed a lease with a couple of trustworthy friends before I left in June; they were clean, civil, and overall a non-problem. The duplex we rented out was leased out to us at a discount if we could fill in two more rooms, and we, well more like I left it in the hands of my friends, were confident that wouldn't be such a difficult task. Long story short, we had a pal's boyfriend move in, and a person from Craigslist move in. Now I'm not going to far into the financially part, since we as a group came to a disgruntled conclusion... but we have different sized rooms, and pay every the same rent; with me stuck with the smallest of them every, I also have to share my bathroom, as well as the kitchen. So that adds a little to my list of objections of the situation. Now onto the main problem. The roommate that is my pal's pal's boyfriend, nicknamed Mart, is a forensics major in the same university as me, but is one year ahead of me in credits. I'm a linguistics major, but I like to believe that I'm well educated in most things practical. Now Mart, a self proclaimed "clean guy" has tread on a lot of my pet peeves. To bring up a few of the things he does, he: 1. Lies when I ask about a specific object being misplaced, when clearly he is the only other person in the household that would have any use for it. That and it always ends up in his room after a few seconds on searching. 2. Claims that he cleans up after himself, when he leaves dishes hanging around AROUND the sink, as well as in... sometimes... to fester for a week or more. 3. When he does receive around to doing some of the dishes by hand, he always leaves food bits on every practically every the surfaces (i.e. spoons, plates, bowls...). 4. When he places things in the dish washer, he just throws them in there, without the thought of organizing it so that the bowls and cups on the lower levels WON'T catch every the water so that the upper level remains uncleaned. Not to mention that our dishwasher isn't a super $1000 one which can wash off every matter of food matter caked onto plates that have been sitting there for days, and he refuses to do a quick pre-wash by hand to receive most of it off. 5. Eats off the dirty counters that he spills every his food and coffee on. 6. Does not understand the concept of consolidating dishes, cups, and eating utensils... Let alone food in the pantry. 7. He argues that his girlfriend, who lives there, doesn't pay a cent for rent, and that she is living there as his "guest". I'll go a little more in-depth about this since, I have a clarification between guests and resident. 8. Covers up for his girlfriend, when she takes my food, and lies to me when I ask about the disappearance of said food. 9. When I arrive home from a long weekends work with my National Guard unit, I arrive home to find the place a mess, things misplaced... to generalize, wreak havoc in the home that not even 170 soldiers do. Alright, I guess that's helped relieve some steam. I've talked to him on many occasions. I've brought up many compromises for him to work with, as well as for myself. I've tried the scheduled idea, didn't work; complains he doesn't have time on any of the suggested slots. I've suggested that he do them by the end of every day, didn't work; complains that's too frequent. I've even thrown out the idea of doing the dishes right before we receive the point where we run out of clean ones. That didn't work out in practice. I've gone and compromised several times where I did every the dishes, every day, for weeks. It didn't receive a message across of living in a clean environment felt better. I've tried talking to him sympathetically, as well as been a hardball and bring reasoning. I've even gone as far as brought evidence signed by professors to counter his "evidence" of his forensics background. He doesn't care. He doesn't care if the place is infested with ants and flies, because that's how I found the place when I first came back from Basic. He thinks that he's always right, because he has his schooling to back him up. But how can he reason using 409 to clean out coffee pots, because it gets rid of "stains" better, when he leaves coffee in said pot for weeks to mold!? A man who pisses ON the toilet seat. LEAVES my toothbrush/shaving kit bag on the ground for days when I'm out at work in the bathroom, and says he doesn't want to deal with, quote: "[your] stupid germaphobic sh*t". I'll give the man credit that he "knows" some actual facts about reality. He's not an entire idiot, but his intelligence doesn't show through many times. But how does one argue... wel He pays for rent, his girlfriend doesn't. So he argues that his girlfriend is a guest living in his space that he pays rent for.

Open Question: I Need To Know More About The National Guard Patriot Academy.?
1st off I'm gonna tell you why I need more info about the NGPA. I talked to my local recruiter about joining the National Guard Patriot Academy, and she told me that I cannot join the Academy because I needed to have atleast 6 credits before graduating (in other words I would have needed to be 6 credits short from graduating), and that is when I started think about what it said on the Patriot Academy website where it sais nothing about HS credits. Then she started telling me about the GED Plus program, and I made it clear to her that I wasn't interested in that type of program, that I was interested in joing the NG Patriot Academy for a high school diploma and to serve my country, but she kept trying to receive me to enlist through the GED program, and by the way she didn't even sound serious, she kinda sounded like she wanted to rush me into something. Anyways, now that you know why I need as much info as possible about the NGPA, please answer my question. Thinks for your time. Michael

Open Question: transfer from NG to Active army?
I'm in the Army National Guard and I want to go active. I still have 4 years in my NG contract. Is it possible to switch?? I know I might have to pay back my enlistment bonus for breaking my contract which is fine. I really want to go active. I'm soooo bored with the national guard. Are drill weekends are a joke!
